The Windom Police Department, in collaboration with the Windom Fire Department, announces plans to begin a drone program.
The drone will be used to assist in investigations and also will be used by the fire department to battle fires in the area.
Assistant Police Chief Corey Hillesheim said that, per State Statute 626.19 regarding the use of unmanned aerial vehicles by law enforcement agencies, a period of public comment is required.
Hillesheim said that any comments from the public concerning the use of an UAV can be e-mailed to him at: chillesheim@windom-mn.com. Comments also may be mailed to Hillesheim at the Windom Police Department, or dropped off at the Law Enforcement Center.
Hillesheim added that a period for public comment also must be held at a future city council meeting before use of the drone can be implemented.
