Section 3A Meet
Windom and Mt. Lake Area each have one state qualifier after Thursday’s Section 3A cross country meet, held in Luverne.
Windom sophomore Kaylee Walklin advanced to the state meet by finishing fourth in the girls race with a time of 18:56.
Meanwhile, MLA junior Kody Wassman placed fifth in the boys race with a time of 16:36 to advance.
Girls
MLA finished sixth in the team standings with 199 points. Windom took seventh as a team with 212 points.
Murray County Central-Fulda advanced to state as the section champion with 58 points. Canby-Minneota edged out Luverne for the runner-up spot, advancing to state with 67 points.
In addition to Walklin’s state-qualifying performance, Windom had Charlotte Nauman in 38th place (21:59), followed by Alivia Letcher in 46th (22:11), Jesselle Sosa in 63rd (22:46) and Ella Smith in 68th (23:04).
MLA was led by Lydia Rete, who finished in 23rd place with a time of 21:16. She was closely followed by Julia Brinkman in 24th place (21:20). Hannah Beyer took 44th (22:09), followed by Celia Vogel in 56th (22:31) and Theresa Nwaiga in 59th (22:37).
Boys
The Windom Eagles were just out of the state qualifying in a couple of different ways Thursday, finishing third as a team with 106 points. MLA finished seventh with 197 points. Luverne won the team title with 66 points, while Redwood Valley advanced as the section runner-up with 82 points.
In addition to missing a team qualifying berth by one placing, Windom’s top finisher missed an individual qualifying spot by one placing. Junior Thomas Green finished 12th, overall, with a time of 17:01. Heron Lake-Okabena’s Tim Salentiny finished 11th in 16:55, taking the final qualifying spot.
Aaden Nauman took 15th (17:07), followed by Charlie Smith in 16th (17:10), Jacob Green in 21st (17:21) and Bryce Green in 45th (18:23).
In addition to Wassman’s state-qualifying finish, MLA was led by Zach Klassen, who took 25th place with a time of 17:35. Ethan Schroeder finished 33rd (18:00), followed by Luke Klassen in 65th (19:14) and Jordan Linscheid in 78th (19:48).
