The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Office in Windom announced Friday that a limited number of do-it-yourself testing kits for chronic wasting disease are available at the offices in Windom.
Local Wildlife Manager Brian Nyborg said each kit comes with everything a hunter would need to be able to extract lymph nodes from their deer, place them into a refrigerated container and ship them to be tested. A link to a video with step-by-step instructions is also available.
The hunter is then notified within 14 business days of the test results.
Testing for CWD is not required in the deer hunting areas in and around Southwest Minnesota. However, testing is required in several areas of the state where cases of CWD have been detected in recent years.
