Lions Meet of Champions
The Windom cross country team made its annual trek north to face the toughest competition of the season Saturday at the Lions Meet of Champions, held at Arrowwood Resort near Alexandria.
The meet features past state champion teams, with the majority of the field consisting of large Class AAA schools.
The Eagle boys finished 19th out of 27 complete teams with 431 points. Stillwater won the team title with 77 points.
The Eagle girls were 21st out of 24 complete teams with 555 points. St. Paul Highland Park won the team title with 79 points.
Individually, Kaylee Walklin had a standout day for the Eagle girls, capturing fourth place, individually, in the girls varsity race with a time of 18:33. Charlotte Nauman was 119th (22:50), followed by Alivia Letcher in 140th (23:43), Chloe Shamp in 148th (24:11) and Victoria Robillard in 160th (25:04).
Thomas Green led the Eagle boys, finishing 55th with a time of 17:23. He was followed by Aaden Nauman in 64th (17:39), Charlie Smith in 76th (17:52), Jacob Green in 102nd (18:18) and Eli Bordewyk in 134th (18:59).
Sleepy Eye Invite
The Mt. Lake Area girls cross country team placed second and the boys took third at Thursday’s Sleepy Eye Invitational, held at the Sleepy Eye Country Club.
The Wolverine girls finished with 65 team points. Sibley East won the team title with 48 points.
MLA’s boys finished with 83 points. Mankato Loyola/Cleveland won the team title with 53 points.
MLA’s girls were paced by Lydia Rete, who turned in a dazzling third-place time of 21:06. She was followed by Julia Brinkman in fourth (21:20), Theresa Nwaiga in 16th (23:07), Meghan Johnson in 21st (23:35) and Jacey Klassen in 23rd (23:41).
The Wolverine boys were led by Kody Wassman’s runner-up time of 17:04. Zach Klassen added a fifth-place time of 17:23. Ethan Schroeder finished 16th (18:12), followed by Jordan Linscheid in 29th (19:09) and Anthony Turquin in 33rd (19:23).
