Cards hand Eagles five-set loss

The Windom Eagle volleyball team dropped its fourth match in a row Thursday night, falling 3-2 at Luverne.

The Eagles started strong, winning the opening set before Luverne rallied to win the next two. Windom regrouped, winning the fourth set. But the Cardinals regained momentum late in the deciding fifth set, pulling away late for the victory.

Hadley Sammons led the Eagles with four ace serves on 24-of-25 serving. Elliot Espenson went 18-of-18 with an ace.

Tristyn Maras finished with a team-high 21 kills. Leah Hauge added seven and Hannah Dauer and Kameron Rupp had five kills each. Espenson had five solo blocks, while Dauer, Hauge and Maras had four each.

Makenna McNamara had a team-high 21 set assists. Maras finished with 26 digs.

MLAC 15-16-25-21 = 1
Edgerton 25-25-19-25 = 3

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey volleyball team tried to mount a late rally but couldn’t force a deciding fifth set Thursday, falling 3-1 at Edgerton.

The Dutchmen won the first two sets before the Wolverines battled back, taking set three 25-19.

MLAC then held a lead late in set four before the Dutchmen were able to get a side out and serve out the final five points, winning 25-21.

Michala Morin pace the Wolverines at the net with 15 kills. Kearney Wall added seven and Brooke Naas and Jaci Tollefson had six kills each.

Naas went 20-of-21 serving with two aces. Tollefson and Alexis Romsdahl each added one ace.

Tollefson had 28 set assists. Morin had a team-high 14 digs. Naas added 13 digs.
