A 46-year-old Windom man was arrested following an armed standoff Thursday evening.
According to a press release from the Windom Police Department, WPD was dispatched to the 1300 block of Sixth Avenue at 7:59 p.m., Thursday, on a report of a possible domestic assault.
Investigators learned the suspect was inside with a weapon. Due to the report of weapons inside the residence and the threat of violence, the HEAT team was activated to assist at the scene.
At approximately 11:23 p.m., the male suspect walked outside of the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
WPD reports that 46-year-old Andrew Niskanen of Windom was arrested on charges of domestic assault by strangulation.
WPD was assisted at the scene by the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department, Westbrook Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and the HEAT team.
