Falcons roll past Knights in opener

RRC 13-27-08-00 = 48
SESM 00-00-00-08 = 08

Red Rock Central dominated from start to finish Friday night, racing to a 40-0 halftime lead on its way to a 48-8 victory at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in a Zero Week football contest.

The Falcons wasted no time getting going, marching the length of the field on the opening drive and scoring on a 1-yard Jacob Amsden run.

The Falcons tacked on a 9-yard Vander Mathiowetz touchdown run to take a 13-0 lead after one quarter.

Then, in the second, the Falcon defense forced a turnover and a trio of three-and-outs, with RRC cashing each one in.

Amsden scored his second 1-yard touchdown run, followed by a Mathiowetz 32-yard scoring reception from Isaac Simonson. Simonson hit Mathiowetz again for a 19-yard score, then found Carter Therkilsen for a 49-yard strike, giving the Falcons a 40-0 halftime lead.

The Falcons closed their scoring early in the third quarter when Therkilsen recovered a fumble and returned it 25 yards for a score.

Therkilsen rushed for 120 yards on 20 carries. He also had a team-high 60 receiving yards on three catches. Simonson completed 10-of-15 passes for 177 yards and three scores.
