94-year-old Mt. Lake woman unveils her first book

Being a senior citizen did not stop Julia Penner, a Mt. Lake resident, from writing and having her first book published at the age of 94.
Penner’s book “Winning the Race,” tells the story of Gene Duerksen, who was a familiar face in southwest Minnesota.
Duerksen, a prayer warrior who had a passion as an evangelist, was the Maranatha Ministries director.
Gene and his wife Margaret transformed nine acres in the Delft area into Maranatha Ministries, which involved church retreats, youth programs, records and CDs overflowing with Christian music and a coffee house ministry in the old Delft Creamery.

For more on this story, see the Aug. 17 edition of the Mt. Lake-Butterfield Observer-Advocate.
