MLHS gym floor damaged

The recent severe weather didn’t cause damage to the exterior of the Mt. Lake Public School building.

But it is suspected that the storm and the heavy rainfall caused a pipe to burst inside a storage room in the school, near the auditorium.

The water that rushed from the pipe ended up seeping underneath the wooden auditorium floor, causing the floor to warp and cup. The damage is believed to be irreparable.

At Monday’s school board meeting, Supt. Bill Strom told the board he believed the damage would be covered by insurance.

However, because the floor is unusable, it creates concerns for high school phy. ed. classes, as well as indoor extra-curricular activities.

Activities Director Shawn Naas noted that, because of the damage, all Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey home volleyball matches this fall will be played in Comfrey.
