Motorist scam costs Windom store $148

Area convenience store clerks are no doubt keeping a close eye on pumps and fuel purchases, given the price of gasoline.

However, that doesn’t prevent motorists from trying various schemes to steal gas. Last Thursday, a motorist walked into the Windom Speedway convenience store and complained that his credit card did not work at the pump.

The man told the clerk he would fill the tank and then come inside to pay. However, around the same time the clerk was distracted and the driver managed to drive away without paying.

The total loss was $148.20
