Florence Leona Richter was born March 9, 1933, to the late Walter and Leona (Siemers) Bretzman, in Windom, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield, MN. During her life, Florence was a faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran and the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom and participated in LWML and her Circle. She received her education at St. Peter Lutheran School, and earned her GED in 1990, an accomplishment she was very proud of.

On June 8, 1952, Florence was married to Leonard Ernest Richter at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Randall, Rebecca, Royce, and Rodney and four grandchildren. Leonard and Florence started their life together as farmers in rural Jackson County, before moving their family to Windom in 1964. For many years, Florence worked in the grocery business, starting at the National Tea store, for 12 years at Daggett’s Grocery and then 26 years at Gordy’s Super Valu. She enjoyed serving her customers with grace and good humor until she retired in 2004.

Florence was the oldest of nine children. This large family made for many wonderful family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, reunions, and other celebrations. Her four sisters remained her best friends throughout her life and this sisterhood was an inspiration to the entire Bretzman family. Her love of music was evidenced by her long service as a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church choir (beginning at age 15) and for many years at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior. She and Leonard enjoyed many road trips to visit friends and family. Florence was an avid reader, a wonderful cook and baker, and enjoyed collecting recipes.

At age 89, Florence passed peacefully at Good Samaritan Society Sogge Memorial, on Saturday, May 21, 2022. She is survived by her children, son, Randall and partner, Mark Good, of Carrollton, TX, daughter, Rebecca and husband, Frank Radmacher, of Louisville, KY, son, Royce and wife, Elizabeth of Eden Prairie, MN, and son, Rodney of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Benjamin, Andrew (fiancée Taylor O’Hara) and Thomas Richter and Caroline Radmacher; her sisters, Darline Gunther, Lois Kraft, Mary and husband, Mark Voss; brother, James and wife, Jane Bretzman; sisters-in-law, Sharon Bretzman, Darlene Bretzman Hemen, Doris Richter, and Norma Richter; brother-in-law, Verlin Christians; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Richter; parents, Walter and Leona Bretzman; brothers, Marvin, Raymond, and John Bretzman; and sister, Janice Christians.
