Betty Ann Karlyn (Romsdahl) Belcher Obituary

Betty Ann Karlyn (Romsdahl) Belcher, formerly of Windom passed way Sunday, May 8, 2022 while as a patient at the Fairview Hospital in Edina, Minnesota. She was 86. She had been residing in Brainerd, Minnesota the past several years.

Betty was born to Alfred and Blanche (Anderson) Romsdahl in St. James, Minnesota on January 6, 1936. Betty graduated from St. James High School in 1953. She furthered her education by graduating from the School of Cosmetology in Mankato in 1954.

Betty married Clem Belcher in St. James in 1954. Clem joined the Air Force, and they moved to Great Falls, Montana. Their son, Mark was born in 1955. They then moved to Missouri to an Air Force base there in 1956. In 1957, they relocated to Mankato, Minnesota where Clem finished college and their daughter Jana was born in 1958. They took a teaching position in North Carolina, and their son Jon was born in 1963. That same year, they moved to Iowa and decided on a career with Sears, and in 1965 transferred to Windom.

Betty was active with the Mrs. Jaycees and participated for about 3 years in the Sunderman School of Dance. She worked during the 1970’s at Ostenson’s Clothing Store and the Beautiful Idea. She really enjoyed working in the fashion business with clothing, makeup and hair and had a talent for it.

In 1984, she moved to Southern California where she worked as a Nanny for many years. She really enjoyed her time there with 2 of her sisters and lots of nieces and nephews. She loved California, so much to do and see, and of course, she cherished the warm sunshine year round! In 2009 she retired and moved back to Minnesota to join her 2 sons, Mark and Jon Belcher in Brainerd.

Throughout her life, she looked forward to going on vacations with her family and was always on the go. She was an incredible cook and baker. She loved entertaining and was always cooking and baking something for someone! She was an avid fan of the Vikings, Twins, The Wild and the Minnesota Gopher’s Football.

She was loved by all the children she nannied for in California. She was passionate about spending time with her children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers and all her nieces and nephews and all her Windom friends. Family and friends were so important to her. She cherished them all. She truly was loved by everyone. We will always remember her fun personality and kindness and thoughtfulness. She was a dedicated person to whatever she did.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Alfred and Blanche Romsdahl, mother- and father-in-law, Maurice and Pearl Belcher, all of St. James and her 2 brothers, 5 sisters and all their spouses and her son Mark Belcher.

She is survived by her daughter Jana Belcher (Jerry Schlink) of Eden Prairie son Jon Belcher, Clem Belcher, Daughter in law Deb Belcher, all of Brainerd, 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd, Minnesota on Saturday, June 25th at 11:00 am with a luncheon at the church to follow and a dinner that evening at the Black Bear Restaurant in Brainerd.
