The Windom Riverfest Fireworks event returns to the open fields behind Windom Area High School tonight.
As usual, the first rockets will appear in the sky somewhere around 10 p.m.
A Riverfest night tradition for 36 years, fireworks will be set off at the school. Special thanks to Perry Olson with Fortune Transportation in helping facilitate the fireworks launch.
People can park at the school, make sure car lights are turned off, and observe the designated areas for lawn chair setup. For many years, the fireworks show was sponsored by the proceeds brought in from the pop can bin.
Due to changes in local recycling, cost of fireworks, and aluminum prices, the can bin will no longer be the primary means of fireworks fundraising. The new Riverfest Committee encourages residents to be open to reimagining this tradition and to donate to the Riverfest celebration.
