The Windom Pirates erupted in the late innings Sunday afternoon, running away with a 13-1 victory over the Ruthton Royals in First Nite/Gopher interleague play at Ruthton.
Windom scored 12 of its 13 runs in its final three trips to the plate in the game.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, as Brett Willaby belted a solo home run over the right-center field wall.
It stayed 1-0 until the top of the sixth, when Kyle Espenson hit an RBI single, Willaby added an RBI triple and a run scored on an error.
The Pirates put the game out of reach in the seventh as Kobe Lovell blasted a three-run home run. Then, in the eighth, Windom tacked on six more runs. Lovell hit a two-run single, Willaby had a sacrifice fly and Nick Kulseth hit an RBI single. Two runs also scored on bases-loaded walks.
Lovell finished with four hits and five RBI in the victory. Alex Fink, Espenson and Willaby added two hits each.
Lovell worked the first six innings on the mound, scattering three hits. He walked one and struck out eight.

A late-inning surge lifted the Luverne Redbirds to a 10-3 victory over the Mt. Lake Lakers in First Nite/Gopher interleague play Sunday in Mt. Lake.
The Redbirds scored in the middle innings to take a 3-0 lead before the Lakers battled back, scoring on a Rhinley Kazuma RBI double and a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
But the Redbirds scored three times in the seventh and four runs in the eighth, blowing the game open. Mt. Lake’s final run scored on a double steal in the eighth inning.
Connor Jones had two of the Lakers’ six hits in the game.
Jacob Brey worked the first six innings, taking the pitching loss.
