Fast start lifts Eagle baseball

The Windom Eagle baseball team raced to a commanding lead early Thursday and cruised to a 15-6 victory over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Lamberton.

The Eagles plated five runs in the top of the first inning and built a 10-2 lead after three innings.

In the top of the first, Braydon Kreofsky hit an RBI single, Henry Erickson ripped a two-run triple, Wyatt Haugen plated a run on a fielder’s choice and a run scored on an error.

In the second, Kreofsky added an RBI single and Wriley Haugen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

RRC/WWG got on the board in the bottom of the second on a Keaton Skarupa RBI triple and a Jake Jackson sacrifice fly.

In the third, Kreofsky plated a run with a ground out, Erickson hit an RBI double and Haugen hit a sacrifice fly.

RRC/WWG trimmed the deficit to 10-4 in the fourth, scoring on an error and a groundout by Skarupa.

Then, in the fifth, the Falcons pulled to within 10-6 on an error and a Jackson RBI single.

But the Eagles regained momentum in the sixth on a Drew Rothenberger two-run single.

Then, in the seventh, Windom scored on a passed ball, a wild pitch and an error.

Kroefsky led the Eagles with three hits. Rothenberger, Erickson and Josh Garrison had two hits each.

Isaac Simonson had two hits for the Falcons.

Chayton Struck picked up the pitching win, allowing six runs on seven hits in 4-2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out six.

Quintyn Vold took the loss, working the first two-thirds of an inning for the Falcons.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey took a pair of tough section losses Thursday, dropping both halves of a doubleheader at Madelia.

The Wolverines lost the opener 5-4, then lost the nightcap 3-2.

In the opener, the Wolverines took an early lead. Sam Pidde ripped a two-run triple in the bottom of the second. In the third, Caleb Simon and Jake Evers hit RBI singles.

The Blackhawks got on the board in the top of the fourth. Then, the Blackhawks rallied with four runs in the bottom of the inning, taking the lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Wolverines had the potential tying run thrown out at the plate on a fielder’s choice.

Pidde had two hits in the loss.

Kolby Kremmin took the pitching loss, working the final three innings in relief.

In the nightcap, Madelia scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking an early lead.

The Wolverines scored twice in the top of the fourth. Evers plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Alex Blom hit an RBI single.

The Wolverines again brought the potential tying run into scoring position in the final inning, but a flyout ended the game.

Blom took the pitching loss for the Wolverines.
