Eagles top Arrows, clinch division title

Windom 000 113 1 = 6-6-1

Pipestone 100 000 0 = 1-5-5

The Windom Eagle baseball team clinched the Big South Conference Small School Division championship Wednesday, rallying for a 6-1 victory at Pipestone.

The win means the Eagles will host Fairmont Saturday for the outright conference championship. That game will be played at noon at Island Park.

Against Pipestone, the Arrows took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Eagles responded late. Brady Espenson’s RBI single in the fourth tied the game at 1-1. Then, a sacrifice fly from Drew Rothenberger in the fifth gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Windom broke the game open with three runs in the top of the sixth. Wyatt Haugen hit an RBI single, Tucker Renquist drew a bases-loaded walk and Rothenberger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Windom’s final run scored on an error in the top of the seventh.

Josh Garrison earned the pitching victory, allowing one run on two hits in four innings of work. He struck out three.
