Pirates top Adrian Sunday

The Windom Pirates improved to 2-0 on the young season Sunday, rallying past Adrian 6-2 at Island Park.

The Pirates took the lead for good in the third inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Joel Riordan and Alex Fink and an error.

In the fifth, Kyle Espenson ripped a two-run double. Windom’s final run scored on a David Volk sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Brett Willaby had two hits in the win.

Luke Gilbertson worked eight strong innings to earn the pitching win. He scattered five hits, walked two and struck out six.

The Mt. Lake Lakers struggled with the strike zone Sunday afternoon, dropping a 7-5 decision to Fox Lake at Truman in First Nite League action.

Laker pitchers held the Foxes to just two hits, but Mt. Lake issued seven walks and hit five Fox Lake batters.

The Lakers scored in the first inning on a Jacob Brey fielder’s choice, then added a sacrifice fly from Brey in the third and a Conner Jones RBI single in the fourth. The final Laker runs scored on a Tylor Duerksen RBI single in the eighth and on an error in the ninth.

Fox Lake broke the game open in the fifth inning on a three-run home run from Wyatt Geistfeld.

Jones had three hits in the loss for the Lakers. Levi Jahnke added two hits.

Brey took the pitching loss, working the final 5-1/3 innings in relief. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out 10.
