The Windom Pirates opened the 2022 amateur baseball season with a dominant performance at the plate and on the mound Sunday, defeating the Jackson Bulls 12-0 in five innings at Jackson.
The Pirate offense slugged out 15 hits in the game and raced to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Windom scored in four of its five trips to the plate.
Meanwhile, Pirate pitcher Collin Lovell dominated the Bulls lineup, finishing with a five-inning no-hitter. He walked one and struck out 11. Lovell allowed only two baserunners in the game. The first reached on an error, but was tagged out after rounding first and trying to return to the base. A fifth-inning walk forced Lovell to work from the stretch for the first time in the game.
Windom raced to the lead in the first inning. Alex Fink hit an RBI single and Kyle Espenson and Matt Madsen hit back-to-back two-run doubles.
Kobe Lovell added an RBI triple in the second. Fink hit a two-run single and Espenson added an RBI single in the fourth and David Volk ripped a two-run double in the fifth.
Fink finished with four hits and four runs scored in the win. Kobe Lovell and Espenson had three hits each.

Things fell apart late for the Mt. Lake Lakers Sunday, as the Lakers dropped a First Nite League decision at Fairmont.
The Lakers broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning on an error.
Then, in the sixth, Levi Jahnke and Conner Jones drew back-to-back bases loaded walks.
But Fairmont plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game. The Martins then scored twice in both the seventh and eighth innings to take the lead.
The final two Laker runs scored on an error in the ninth inning.
Jahnke had three hits in the loss for the Lakers. Rhinley Kazuma added a pair of hits.
Jon Faber took the pitching loss, working one inning in relief.
