Eagles shut down high-powered Tigers for win

Windom held a hard-hitting Springfield team at bay Friday afternoon and got a critical run in the top of the seventh to defeat the Tigers 3-2 at Springfield.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a Sydney Skarphol RBI double and a bases-loaded walk to Hailey Veenker.

The Tigers got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but Eagle pitcher Jenna Veenker kept the Tigers guessing, holding Springfield to six hits in the game.

In the top of the seventh, Jenna Veenker lined an RBI single up the middle, giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead.

Springfield mounted a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh with two walks and a single, but with the tying run at second, a line drive to shortstop was caught by K.J. Huska, ending the threat and the game.

Jenna Veenker had two hits an an RBI to lead the Eagle offense. She also picked up the complete-game pitching victory, walking three and striking out one.
