The National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls has issued a high wind warning, which encompasses much of Southwest Minnesota, including Cottonwood County.
The warning is in effect until 7 p.m. tonight.
Sustained winds of 35 to 40 miles per hour, with gusts over 60 miles per hour, are expected throughout the day today.
The wind conditions also are making travel difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles. There have been reports of semis being tipped over by the wind near Delft and near Fish Lake.
The winds may also damage trees and power lines and could cause power outages.
