A short time ago, Windom Police Chief Scott Peterson and Windom Superintendent of Schools Wayne Wormstadt issued the following statement about today’s evacuation at the Middle High School building:
“Parents and Community, on Apr 4, 2022 at approximately 8:15 a.m. Windom Area School officials contacted the Windom Police Department about a potential bomb threat. The district had students and staff shelter in place.
Officers responded and Windom Police Department advised the district to evacuate the Middle High School Building. After students were evacuated from the building, law enforcement conducted a search of the premises. The investigation is ongoing.
The Windom Police Department was assisted by the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office and DNR. Windom Fire and Ambulance Departments also responded.
Students were reunited with their parents in the morning through a coordinated effort of the Windom School District staff, Palmer Bus Service and Windom Fire Department.
The Windom Police Department believes there is no active threat to the school or students.
