BREAKING: Parents allowed to pick up students following threat

Parents have been notified that they are now being allowed to pick up their students in grades 5-12 after the Windom Area Middle High School building was evacuated due to a threat.

Students in grades 5-8 may be picked up at the American Lutheran Church east doors. Students in grades 9-12 may be picked up at the Windom Community Center south doors. Parents will have to enter to sign their student out at each location.

The Windom Fire Department is on the scene at American Lutheran Church and the Windom Community Center to provide traffic control. WAMHS staff are on site at each location to assist with the reunification process.

Windom Area Elementary School is considered to be in a soft lockdown. Parents may pick their children up at the school’s main office if they wish.

Additionally, nobody is being allowed to re-enter the Middle High School building, and students are not allowed to pick up their vehicles until they have been searched. Parents will be notified when student vehicles may be picked up and when students can enter the building to retrieve any other belongings.

At this point, no determination has been made whether Windom students will participate in the scheduled track meet at Luverne or if the scheduled baseball game against TMB, being played at Augustana in Sioux Falls, will be held.
