Windom speech wins Sub-Section South title

The Windom speech team turned in a stellar performance at the Section 3A Sub-Section South Tournament in Adrian Tuesday.

The team topped the 11-team field with 73 points to claim the sub-section title. Luverne was second with 55 points, followed by Adrian with 27, Fulda with 25 and Jackson County Central with 22.

Windom was led by multiple places in five of the 13 speech categories, as well as four individual champions. Those champions included Harriet Lohse in drama, Andres Rodriguez Cerda and Lauren Kelly in duo interpretation, Makenna McNamara in original oratory and Chloe Shamp in poetry.

Earning silver medals for second place were Ava Van Norman in drama, Alex Garcia and Eric Cendejas Caballero in duo interpretation, Ashlyn Altman in original oratory and Nyah Visker in poetry.

Finishing third and advancing to the section meet were Virginia Jensen in creative expression, Ella Wilde and Vanessa Garcia in duo interpretation and Kaylan Donchez in original oratory.

Qualifying for the section tournament with fourth-place finishes were Kaycee Hunter in creative expression, Emily Elston and Valerie Schutz in duo interpretation and ZadieAnne Johnson in prose.

Benjamin Bartsch from Mt. Lake Public High School qualified for the section meet with a fourth-place finish in extemporaneous reading.

Windom swept the top four spots in duo interpretation, the top three in original oratory and the top two in both poetry and drama.

The top four in each category advance to the Section 3A Tournament April 9 at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. Windom qualified 18 individuals for the section tournament.
