Windom board approves high school soccer

Windom and St. James will join forces to field a high school soccer team this fall.

The Windom School Board approved the pairing at Monday night’s regular meeting. The team will be called the “Wings” and will play its home games in St. James because that community has a regulation soccer field (Windom does not).

Costs for each district will be determined based on a per participant formula once the varsity team is determined. Vacant coaching positions will be advertised in both schools. St. James will be responsible for the hiring process, held in consultation with the Windom district.

Supt. Wayne Wormstadt said scheduling should not be a big problem, since Windom and St. James are already part of the Big South Conference, which has multiple soccer teams already in place.
