Board OKs body cameras for sheriff’s department

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department will be receiving new body-worn cameras, following approval at Tuesday’s Cottonwood County Commissioners meeting.

Sheriff Jason Purrington presented the request for eight body-worn cameras, as well as two new dashboard cameras for squad vehicles.

The cameras would be on a five-year lease from Motorola Solutions, at a cost of $11,454 annually for the term of the lease.

Purrington noted the department already has policies in place as to when body cameras need to be on. He added his department had budgeted $20,000 this year for body cameras.

The board approved the purchase.

Much more on Tuesday’s meeting appears in this week’s print edition of the Citizen.
