On Saturday, Cottonwood County Deputies received a call from a rural Mt. Lake address regarding a possible scam.
The party reported he had received threatening text messages from a number he did not recognize. The texts were demanding money and making threats if he did not pay.
The texter sent photos of people who had supposedly been assaulted, to show what could happen if the person did not send money. Upon investigation, copies of the photos were found readily available online, but deputies were unable to track down a suspect. No funds were lost in the scam.
