Windom opens speech season at Worthington

The Windom Area High School speech team opened the 2022 season — in person — at the Worthington Trojan Tournament Saturday, and despite being shorthanded, the local speakers brought home a respectable fifth-place finish.

Host Worthington won the tournament with 94 points, followed by Luverne with 86. Minneota was third with 54 points, Adrian fourth with 44 and Windom finished with 42 points.

Windom did not bring its full team to the meet because a number of team members were involved with the winter play on Saturday.

After a year away from competition, junior Moriah Lohrenz returned in fine form, winning the prose category to lead Windom.

Windom’s lone returning state qualifier, junior Makenna McNamara, captured a second-place silver medal in original oratory.

To find out how the rest of the team performed, see the story in the Feb. 9 issue of the Cottonwood County Citizen, on newsstands Wednesday.
