The National Weather Service recently released a special weather statement regarding conditions in Southwest Minnesota.
Northwest winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour, combined with light snowfall overnight and lingering snowpack are resulting in areas of blowing and drifting snow throughout the region.
Visibility of less than a mile is being widely reported, with brief whiteout conditions possible.
In addition, road conditions are deteriorating in the region as snow is blowing and sticking to roads. Some spinouts and roads off the roadway have been reported this morning.
The NWS stated that visibility should improve by late afternoon, as winds weaken in the region. However, the NWS advised extra caution for anyone traveling in the region, being mindful of quickly-changing conditions and possible slippery roads.
