Wolverines surge past Chargers

MLAC 30-33 = 63
WWG 29-26 = 55

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey boys basketball team surged late in the first half to take the lead and carried that momentum into the second half Thursday, pulling away for a 63-55 victory over Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Westbrook.

WWG started the game hot, hitting six three-pointers in the first half to race to a lead. But late three-pointers from Damon Khamvongsa and Carter Olson gave the Wolverines a one-point halftime edge.

In the second half, the Wolverine backcourt duo continued their hot shooting while WWG cooled from long range. MLAC was able to seal the win by hitting a trio of late free throws.

Khamvongsa and Olson each scored 23 points to lead the Wolverines in the win. Kade Wassman added seven points.

Cole VanDeWiele led WWG with 19 points. Kole Curry added 15 points in the loss.
