Eagle boys skate past Fairmont

The Windom Area boys hockey team used a pair of power play goals in the third period to put away a victory Tuesday, defeating Fairmont 6-1 at Fairmont.

After a scoreless opening period, the Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the second on goals from Wriley Haugen and Brady Espenson. Espenson’s goal came with just seven seconds remaining in the period.

Windom took a 3-0 lead on Espenson’s second goal of the game, then netted power play goals from Cragen Porath and Wyatt Haugen to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Fairmont got on the board with 2:15 left in regulation, but the Eagles’ Zach Espenson scored with 38 seconds left on the clock, sealing the win.

Each team had 39 shots on goal in the game. Eagle goalie Dan Stubbe finished with 38 saves.
