Winter storm warning continues until midnight

A winter storm warning that encompasses all of Southwest Minnesota will continue until until midnight tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches will be widespread throughout Eastern South Dakota and Southwest Minnesota, with snow falling at nearly an inch per hour in some locations. Locally heavier snowfall is possible, with some areas likely seeing over a foot of new snow.

Additionally, wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour throughout the day today will create whiteout conditions, making travel difficult and dangerous.

A snow emergency has been declared in the city of Windom for overnight Friday into Saturday.
