Districts weigh potential vaccine mandate

Area school districts are preparing for the possibility of new OSHA regulations that require businesses with 100 or more employees to mandate COVID vaccination, or require face coverings and weekly testing for unvaccinated staff members.

Mt. Lake school board held a special meeting Thursday to discuss an emergency policy update. Meanwhile, similar measures are on the agenda for upcoming regular meetings for the Windom, Red Rock Central and Westbrook-Walnut Grove school boards.

The policy that the Windom board will act on Monday night will only take effect if OSHA or Minnesota OSHA is enforcing the ruling, which could potentially make the district subject to sanctions for noncompliance.

A ruling by the Supreme Court is expected later today, which will determine when, or if, districts and companies with 100 or more employees will be subject to the proposed regulations.
