Fire calls up substantially in 2021

It has been nearly a year since the call came in regarding a house fire on Fourth Avenue, but Fire Chief Ben Derickson remembers it like it was yesterday.

“We got called to that address three times,” Derickson said last week, as he reviewed the fires of 2021. “The first call came in at 7:20 p.m.”

That fire, which severely damaged a home owned by Mike Bogle, did not result in any injuries. It was one of 71 fire calls for Windom firefighters. For perspective, Derickson noted that a typical year yields 40 to 50 fire calls.
