Eagle girls fall twice at Mankato

The Windom Area girls hockey team allowed three unanswered goals over the final 30 minutes Wednesday afternoon, taking a 4-1 loss to Rochester Mayo during the Mankato East Holiday Tournament.

Mayo took a 1-0 lead in the opening period, but the Eagles tied the game at 1-1 2:48 into the second when Marissa Becker scored off an assist from Elly Bang.

But Mayo regained the lead at the 9:05 mark of the second period, then netted two goals in the third period to seal the victory.

Mayo outshot the Eagles 34-21 for the game. Goalie Kaylie Baerg finished with 30 saves.

Windom Area 0-1-0 = 1
Mankato East 3-3-2 = 8

The Windom Area girls hockey team couldn’t get its offense generated Tuesday evening, taking an 8-1 loss to Mankato East as part of the Mankato East Holiday Tournament.

The Cougars scored twice in the first two minutes of the game and built a 6-0 lead before the Eagles scored late in the second period. Madyson Fredin netted the Eagles’ lone goal, scoring with six seconds left in the second period.

The Cougars outshot the Eagles 45-17 for the game. Goalie Kaylie Baerg finished with 37 saves.
