Eagle boys go 0-3 at Little Falls

State-ranked Little Falls raced to a commanding early lead Thursday, cruising to an 8-0 victory over the Windom Area boys hockey team in the final game of the Little Falls Holiday Tournament.

The Flyers peppered the Eagle net with 19 shots in the first period, scoring four goals in a span of just over 2:30 in the opening frame to take a 4-0 lead.

Six different players scored goals for Little Falls in the game.

The Flyers outshot the Eagles 44-19 for the contest. Goalie Dan Stubbe finished with 36 saves in the loss.

Windom Area stormed to life in the third period, but saw a late lead slip away before taking a 4-3 overtime loss to Northern Lakes Wednesday at the Little Falls Tournament.

Northern Lakes scored in the first period and held the lead until early in the third, when Chase Hamlett scored to tie the game. Hamlett added another goal at the 7:54 mark of the third, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

The Lightning tied the game at 2-2, but Brady Espenson’s goal with 3:49 to go gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

But Northern Lakes tied the game with 2:35 left on the clock, forcing overtime. In overtime, Zach Ehnstrom scored at the 1:39 mark, giving the Lightning the win.

Northern Lakes outshot the Eagles 38-22 in the game, including 4-0 in overtime. Goalie Dan Stubbe finished with 34 saves.

WDC 2-1-1 = 4

The Windom Area boys hockey team fell behind early and couldn’t recover Tuesday, falling 4-1 to Wadena-Deer Creek in the first game of the Little Falls Holiday Tournament.

WDC scored a pair of goals in the first six minutes of the game, taking a 2-0 lead early. The Wolverines then netted a power play goal 27 seconds into the second period and another power play goal early in the third to lead 4-0.

The lone Eagle goal of the game came with 3:08 left on the clock, as Zach Espenson scored a power play goal.

WDC outshot the Eagles 35-30 in the game. Goalie Dan Stubbe finished with 31 saves.
