Cardinals sweep Eagle skaters

The Windom Area girls hockey team couldn’t get their offense going Tuesday night, dropping a 9-0 decision to Luverne at Luverne.

The Cardinals outshot the Eagles 39-6 in the game, with two Cardinal players recording hat tricks in the game.

Eagle goalie Kaylie Baerg finished with 30 saves in the loss.

Luverne scored three goals in the final six minutes of the game Tuesday night, rallying for a 5-2 victory over the Windom Area boys hockey team in Luverne.

The Eagles scored first on a goal from Ben Purrington in the first period.

The Cardinals scored in the second, then took a 2-1 lead early in the third before the Eagles tied the game on a goal from Zach Espenson. But the Cardinals regained the lead with 5:12 left on the clock, then added two more goals in the closing minutes for the win.

Luverne outshot the Eagles 38-26 in the game. Goalie Dan Stubbe finished with 33 saves.
