JCC Pizza Ranch Invite
The Windom-Mt. Lake wrestling team had five placewinners and captured seventh place as a team at Saturday’s JCC Pizza Ranch Invitational, held in Jackson.
WML scored 79 team points. Jackson County Central won the team title with 214 points.
Individually, the Cobras had three wrestlers finish third. Thavien Xayachak dropped a quarterfinal technical fall, but rebounded with a trio of falls and an injury default win to take third at 126 pounds.
At 145 pounds, Caden Swoboda made his season debut by advancing to the semifinals before taking a major decision loss. He then picked up back-to-back decision wins to place third.
At 195 pounds, Micah Holmberg also advanced to the semifinals before taking a technical fall defeat. He rebounded with back-to-back pins, taking third place.
Jared Hunter (120) and Tucker Renquist (132) each advanced to the semifinals before taking a loss. They each then won a consolation match before falling in the third-place match, finishing fourth.
Cobras start 0-3
The Windom-Mt. Lake wrestling team went 0-3 in its first three dual meets of the season Thursday in Adrian.
The Cobras opened with a 54-21 loss to Adrian-Ellsworth, then lost 36-30 to Fulda-Murray County Central and 64-16 to Marshall.
Against Adrian-Ellsworth, the Cobras had falls from Jared Hunter (120), Tucker Renquist (132) and Noah Holmberg (138). Preston Xayachak (106) added a decision win.
Against FMCC, the Cobras had falls from Xayachak (113), Hunter (120) and Montgomery Bjorklund (152). Renquist (132) won a technical fall. Aiden Holmberg (126) won a major decision and Noah Holmberg (138) won by decision.
Against Marshall, Xayachak (106) and Renquist (132) each recorded a fall. Micah Holmberg (195) added a major decision win.
