Chargers, Falcons fall in Saturday boys hoops

Westbrook-Walnut Grove fell behind early and never recovered Saturday, taking a 72-59 loss to Jackson County Central as part of the Big South Conference Showcase, held in Pipestone.

The Chargers shot 59% from two-point range in the game, but JCC was able to build a 12-point halftime lead that it wouldn’t relinquish, thanks to a 73% performance from the free throw line.

Kole Curry led the Chargers with 15 points in the loss. Austin Parker and Cole VanDeWiele each added 11 points and Zach Knudson scored 10.

SESM 46-38 = 84

Red Rock Central struggled to keep pace with a high-powered Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s club Saturday night, falling 84-36 to the Knights in Sleepy Eye.

St. Mary’s raced to a 30-point halftime lead behind 52% shooting and nine three-pointers for the game. The Knights also forced the Falcons into 22 turnovers and held a 36-25 edge on the glass.

Joe Strock led RRC with 13 points in the loss. Isaac Simonson added 12 points.
