Windom contemplates offering soccer programs

The Windom Area school board will take its first official steps toward the prospect of adding girls and boys soccer to the list of extra-curricular offerings at Monday’s school board meeting.

On the agenda, the board will discuss the results of a recent survey of students in grades 6-11, trying to determine the level of interest in beginning a high school soccer program. The survey indicated 23 boys and 19 girls expressing interest in participating in soccer as an extra-curricular activity.

The board will discuss the prospect of forming a cooperative agreement with other schools along the Highway 60 corridor, including Mt. Lake, Mt. Lake Christian, St. James and Madelia. St. James currently has practice and game facilities for soccer, making it the likely potential host site for a program.

No official action is expected at Monday’s meeting, aside from planning to reach out to the other schools in a potential pairing to determine a level of interest.
