Eagle boys hold off Marshall rally

The Windom Area boys hockey team held off a late rally Tuesday night to claim a 5-3 victory over Marshall in Marshall.

The Eagles scored three goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead. Marshall battled back with a pair of goals in the middle of the third period, but Windom Area sealed the win with 1:40 left on the clock.

Wyatt Haugen got the Eagles on the board in the first period, scoring a shorthanded goal.

After Marshall tied the game early in the second, the Eagles took the lead for good on goals from Sonny Heil, Wriley Haugen and Zach Espenson.

Marshall battled back with two goals 24 seconds apart in the third period, cutting the Eagle lead to 4-3. But Wyatt Haugen’s second goal of the game with 1:40 to go sealed the win.

Marshall outshot the Eagles 27-24 in the game. Goalie Dan Stubbe finished with 24 saves.
