Chargers fall to Mavericks Saturday

WWG 14-24 = 38
MCW 24-21 = 45

Westbrook-Walnut Grove had a rough night from the field Saturday, falling 45-38 to Martin County West at Trimont.

The Chargers shot just 24% from the floor for the game, including just 21% on two-point shots.

Dan Kleven led the Chargers with 13 points in the loss. Cole VanDeWiele and Austin Parker each scored seven points.

MLAC 31-48 = 79
St. James 29-40 = 69

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey boys basketball team surged in the second half Friday night, pulling away for a 79-69 season-opening win at St. James.

The Wolverines held a slim two-point halftime lead, but knocked down four three-pointers and attacked the basket throughout the second half.

MLAC ended the game going 25-of-31 from the free throw line.

Five Wolverines finished the game scoring in double figures, led by Damon Khamvongsa with 17 points. Carter Olson scored 15, Kolby Kremmin had 13 and Kade Wassman and Cole Kleven each added 10.

WWG 39-36 = 75
YME 25-35 = 60

Westbrook-Walnut Grove got off to a strong start to its season Friday night, building an early lead and claiming a 75-60 victory over Yellow Medicine East at Granite Falls.

The Chargers shot 57% from the field for the game and made 20-of-39 from the free throw line. That hot shooting allowed WWG to build a 14-point halftime cushion on its way to victory.

Kole Curry led WWG with 21 points in the victory. Cole VanDeWiele added 18 points and Austin Parker scored 11.
