A half-century worth of service, projects and community support will be celebrated on Saturday as the Windom Lions Club turns 50.
The service club, which is a joint effort between Windom and Heron Lake, will hold its anniversary party at the Windom Community Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. and music by Hicktown Mafia at 8:30 p.m. Contact Lions members for tickets.
It all started on April 14, 1971, according to Mike Stone of Windom. Mike should know. He was there, serving on the club’s first board as second vice president.
“Sam Meyer was the first Lions Club president,” Stone said. “He got us started when he came here from Pipestone.”
