The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced that Highway 71 near Sanborn was expected to open this weekend, possibly as early as today.
MnDOT reported that crews were paving the shoulders on the Highway 71 bridge project. Topsoil, guardrails, rumble strips and road striping were being done this week. The road would be opened upon completion
Highway 71 has been closed since this spring, when a project began to replace the Cottonwood River bridge near the Cottonwood/Redwood county line.
The $3.6 million project was being done by Rober R. Schroeder Construction of Glenwood.
