Wolverine boys win Red Rock title

Red Rock Conference Meet

Mt. Lake Area’s boys and Murray County Central/Fulda’s girls cruised to team titles at the Red Rock Conference Meet, held Monday at Adrian.

The Wolverine boys ran away with the team title at the meet with 35 points. MLA finished with four all-conference runners. Murray County Central/Fulda was second with 49 points.

Meanwhile, the state-ranked MCCF girls claimed the top four individual spots and cruised to the team title with 19 points. MLA finished fourth in the meet with 76 points. The Wolverine girls had one all-conference finisher.

The top 10 individuals in each race earned all-conference honors.

MLA’s boys were led by sophomore Kody Wassman, who was by himself at the front of the field for most of the race. Wassman won the individual conference title with a time of 17:54.

MLA added three other all-conference runners. Zach Klassen placed fifth (19:13), followed by Luke Klassen in sixth (19:26) and Caden Swoboda in eighth (19:43). Cayden LaPointe rounded out the Wolverine scorers, finishing 15th (20:48).

For the girls, senior Kate Janzen led the way, earning all-conference honors with an eighth-place time of 23:40.

Julia Brinkman just missed the all-conference spots, finishing in 13th place (24:01). She was followed by Riley Schroeder in 18th (24:29), Jacey Klassen in 22nd (25:02) and Lydia Rete in 23rd (25:04).
