Tigers race past Eagles

The state’s top-ranked Class AAA team wasted no time taking command Thursday, as Marshall rolled to a 3-0 sweep over the Windom Eagles at Marshall.

The Tigers closed the opening set with a 13-2 run, cruising to a 25-6 victory. Marshall then pulled away in the mid stages of the second and third sets to claim the sweep.

Tristyn Maras led the Eagles with five kills. Elliot Espenson and Kameron Rupp had three kills each. Sydney Skarphol had two ace serves. Jenna Veenker finished with seven set assists. Skarphol had a team-high nine digs.

Worthington 23-19-26-25-15 = 3

Red Rock Central left a small window of opportunity for Worthington Thursday night and the Trojans took advantage, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Falcons 3-2 at Worthington.

RRC won the opening two sets, including a 25-19 decision in the second. The Falcons then set a chance to close out a sweep slip away as Worthington rallied late to win set three 26-24.

That gave the Trojans momentum, and Worthington won set four 25-18 before winning the deciding fifth set 15-11.

Karli Arkell paced RRC with 20 kills. Josie Horning added 13 kills. Sondra Rindfleisch went 29-of-29 serving with an ace. Arkell was 16-of-16 serving. Nora Hemmingsen had 23 set assists. Horning had a team-high 29 digs.
