Cardinals spoil homecoming, top Eagles

Redwood Valley’s offense was in high gear from the start Friday night as the Cardinals spoiled the Windom Eagles’ homecoming game with a 46-14 decision at Island Park.

The Cardinals piled up over 500 yards of total offense for the game, including over 300 yards in the first half.

Redwood jumped to a 20-0 lead after one quarter before the Eagles put together a solid drive early in the second quarter, capped with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Greyson Elder to Tucker Renquist. But the Cardinals took the ensuing drive and regained a three-score lead, leading 27-7 at halftime.

Windom started the second half with its best drive of the season, marching 75 yards in 12 plays and chewing up over eight minutes of clock. Wyatt Haugen capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run. Henry Erickson’s extra-point kick cut the Cardinal lead to 27-14.

But the Cardinals answered in short order, needing only four plays to take a 33-14 lead with a 10-yard touchdown run.

The Cardinals added a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Abe McKibbin led the Eagles with 71 yards rushing on 10 carries. Carter Vancura had 50 yards on 10 carries. Elder completed 4-of-13 passes for 63 yards. Henry Erickson had three catches for 53 yards.

Mt. Lake Area’s defense held Hills-Beaver Creek in check Friday night as the Wolverines claimed a 24-6 homecoming victory at Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines were held to 159 yards of total offense, but made the most of its field position, scoring on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Marcos DeLeon to Kolby Kremmin and on a 5-yard Micah Holmberg run in the first half.

Trailing 12-6 early in the third quarter, HBC mounted a drive into Wolverine territory. But MLA freshman Jake Evers jumped a pass route and returned an interception 75 yards for a score, giving the Wolverines an 18-6 lead.

MLA’s finish touchdown came on a 1-yard Holmberg run.

Holmberg rushed 13 times for 80 yards. DeLeon completed 2-of-5 passes for 63 yards, with Kremmin recording both receptions.

Red Rock Central’s offense erupted in the second and third quarters Friday night as the Falcons claimed a 48-8 win over Westbrook-Walnut Grove for homecoming in Lamberton.

The Falcon offensive line battered the Chargers, as RRC rushed for over 300 yards in the win.

RRC got on the board first, as Jacob Amsden scored on a 3-yard run. WWG answered, taking an 8-6 lead after one quarter on a David Lee touchdown run and a Kole Curry two-point conversion.

But the Falcons controlled the rest of the game, starting with a 25-yard Jake Jackson touchdown run. Mason Strom added a 3-yard touchdown run, the reeled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Isaac Simonson to give the Falcons a 26-8 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Joseph Strock scored on an 8-yard run and Strom added a 51-yard burst for a score. Jayden Lang’s 1-yard run in the fourth quarter capped the scoring.

Strom finished with 190 yards rushing on 27 carries. Simonson completed 6-of-7 passes for 55 yards. Strom had two catches for 30 yards.
