District warns parents about TikTok trend that involves vandalism, assault

Windom Area Schools is warning parents and students about a viral trend on the popular social media app TikTok.

TikTok influencer page Devious licks has issued several “challenges” for followers to perform in school. Many of those challenges include performing acts of vandalism and assault.

In a letter to district parents, Supt. Wayne Wormstadt stated the October “challenge” involves slapping or punching a teacher.

Wormstadt stated that such an act will not be considered a joke, and any students attempting such a “challenge” could face long-term suspension or possible expulsion from school, as well as the district turning the matter over to law enforcement for charges.

Wormstadt urged parents to work together with the district to promote positive, respectful and responsible behavior.
