Sheriff’s department investigates car theft

An automobile theft incident started off innocently enough, but ended with a suspect running through the streets of Comfrey.

According to Cottonwood County Sheriff Jason Purrington, a pedestrian was spotted walking along a rural Comfrey road and eventually given a ride to Comfrey.

The man claimed his car had broken down nearby. Upon arriving in Comfrey, the man took off running and was not seen again.

Upon investigation, deputies found a parked 2010 Chevrolet Malibu that they determined had been stolen from Spencer, Iowa. They believe it was driven by the man who was given a ride to Comfrey earlier in the night. Deputies are working with Spencer authorities on the investigation.
