SCAM ALERT: Computer firm requests funds, despite providing no services

Americans lives are extremely busy these days, sometimes to the point of not recalling when and where they received services, such as computer repair. Increasingly, scammers use this confusion to their advantage.

Such was the case with a scam reported by a Windom woman last week. According to Windom police, the woman reported she was contacted by a computer firm that is from outside of Southwest Minnesota. She had received remote services from the company, but it had been many years ago.

An employee told the woman that the company was going through financial difficulties and was requesting payment from the woman. Although she had received no documentation from the company, the woman sent a check for $500.

She later learned that this had been a scam.
