Eric-John Niss de Jesus may have grown up in and graduated from high school in Mt. Lake, but last Thursday, communities from the Twin Cities to his hometown embraced the corporal as one of their own.
A processional from Minneapolis-St. Paul International back to Niss de Jesus’s hometown of Mt. Lake honored the fallen Marine, who gave his life to help save three fellow Marines on June 5. Niss de Jesus and his fellow Marines were caught in a rip current while swimming off the Japanese coast.
Last Thursday’s processional went through the communities of Eden Prairie, Shakopee, Jordan, Belle Plaine, LeSueur, St. Peter, Mankato, Lake Crystal, Madelia, St. James and Butterfield before arriving in Mt. Lake about 4:30 p.m.
